Resume examples by role

Start with the work you actually did. These fictional examples show the question behind each bullet, the answer that supplied the facts and a complete resume built from those answers. Use the questions to find your own evidence, rather than copying someone else's experience.

Choose the example closest to your work

The right example shares your duties and responsibility limits. A similar job title alone is not enough. Each role page includes an AI subject-matter review credit and date; these are editorial examples, not advice from a named or licensed human practitioner.

  • Software engineer: code ownership, testing, deployments and your contribution during incidents.
  • Administrative assistant: calendars, travel, documents, meetings and confidential records.
  • New-grad nurse: clinical rotations, supervision and truthful licensure status. Student clinical experience belongs in a different section from paid RN employment.
  • Nursing assistant: daily living support, observations and reporting to the nurse. This role is not interchangeable with a licensed RN.
  • Barista: drink preparation, order flow, equipment care and a first-job example.
  • Customer service: phone, chat and email support, case notes and escalation boundaries.
  • Restaurant server: section size, service style, point-of-sale work and kitchen coordination.
  • Cashier: payments, returns and drawer reconciliation within your actual authority.
  • Retail sales associate: helping shoppers, merchandising and stock work, without claiming store-wide sales results.
  • Medical assistant: clinical and administrative work under a provider's direction, with exact credential status.
  • Bookkeeper: reconciliations, payables and month-end support, separate from accounting review.
  • Warehouse worker: picking, packing, receiving and employer-authorized equipment.
  • Receptionist: phones, visitors, appointments and confidentiality at the front desk.

Turn an example into your own bullet

  1. Pick a duty you genuinely performed. Write down the setting, system and what you personally owned.
  2. Answer the interview question before editing the sentence. Distinguish what you decided from what a supervisor approved.
  3. Use a number only when you can support it. If you cannot verify volume, describe the task, frequency or handoff instead.
  4. Read the rewritten bullet against your answer. Remove any tool, qualification, result or responsibility you did not supply.
  5. Check the sample's skills against its bullets. Apply the same test to your own skills section.

The resume bullet guide explains the method across roles. The worksheet for accomplishments without numbers helps when you have no measured result. Use the skills guide to separate evidence from a list of adjectives.

If you have not held the role yet

Use the entry-level notes on the relevant page. Label coursework, clinical rotations, volunteer work and school projects for what they were. Keep a previous job's actual title, then explain the transferable tasks. A retail return is evidence of handling a difficult interaction; it is not evidence that you administered a technical support queue. The career change resume guide shows a transfer-of-evidence table for this move.

For your first application, read how to write a resume with no experience. Healthcare applicants must also check the employer's requirements and their state board or registry. A resume example does not grant permission to perform a clinical task.

What every example leaves out

The people, employers and scenarios are fictional. Their numbers illustrate a stated answer, not a benchmark you should claim. Do not copy their licenses, dates, systems or results. Keep patient, customer and employer-confidential information off your resume and out of any AI interview.

Occupational duties on each role page link to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. That source describes occupations nationally; employer policies and state requirements may be narrower. The review credit describes an AI editorial check, not a credential verification or a hiring guarantee.

Questions

Can I copy a sample resume?
Use its structure and questions, but write from your own experience. Copying a sample's duties, numbers or qualifications would misrepresent your work.
Which example should I choose for a career change?
Start with the role you are applying for to understand the evidence it needs. Then use your actual previous title and describe only transferable work you really performed. Leave missing qualifications unclaimed.
Do I need numbers in every bullet?
No. A specific task, system, decision or handoff can explain your contribution without a performance figure. Include counts or results only when you can substantiate them.
